Difference between a Draftsmen, Building Designer & Architect?

When building or renovating your home, you generally need a professional to design your house plans. Hiring a professional helps bring your vision to life and they can guide you through the build process.

So who do you hire?
Building designers have come a long way compared to what draughting services have offered in the past. Building Designers are now considered and expected to include many services architects offer.

To call yourself an architect, you need to be registered with a State-based architecture board. They also spend at least 5 years at university and study the science, art and history of building design in considerable depth.

Building designers have evolved from drafts people and come from may design-related or building backgrounds. These days building designers roles have extended into creating functional living spaces with consideration into energy efficiency and can provide like an architect, services in both residential and commercial construction design and documentation. When employed too, architects and building designers can act as the ‘contract administrator’ to oversee the entire construction project.

Overall when you are choosing a professional to design your home, you’re looking for someone who will fulfil your needs, maybe their previous work appeals to you but its important to remember, you need to feel the designer will achieve your design brief based on your budget.

If you already have house plans but you need help co-ordinating the overall vision for your home, you have come to the right place. Our interior designer Candice would love to help you bring your vision to life.
Candice will help you with your exterior colours, through to your interior colours, co-ordinating your internal paint colours, with your ideal flooring, kitchen cabinetry colours, through to your bathrooms colours including all your fixtures and fittings and so much more. Candice will think of things you haven't even considered.

Candice likes to empower her clients with their choices. More often than not, people know what they like but just need the help and reassurance to bring it all together.

You've engaged your builder, signed your contract, they are about to pour the slab and you've hit panic mode because you don't know where to start. It's all too overwhelming! What should you do?
Pick up the phone and call me, Candice on 0418 962 167. Let's have a chat and discuss your project. I'm here to reassure you, it's all going to ok and we can work through it together. We will come up with a plan and have all your selections made so your builder can keep moving forward without any delays and the process then becomes as seamless as possible and you will feel confident with all your internal and external colours and selections.

Who OWNs the copyright TO the plans?

Our design and drawings (house plans) are protected by copyright. Upon payment in full, we still own the copyright but you are licensed to use the plans on the site they were designed for. Final deliverables will not be released until full payment has been received at each stage of the project.

Even if you have had plans drawn up with another building designer/architect, we cannot copy your plans unless you have written permission from your previous building designer/architect stating they 'release all copyright' on those plans. They won't always release and therefore we will need to start from scratch and come up with a new plan for you. Please don't hesitate to call us for further clarification.

Design by Jones may use images of your project in our company portfolio, on our website and social media, but your address and name will never appear on any marketing media without your written consent.
